Why Having a Goal Makes Training So Much Easier 🎯
We’re heading into that time of year when next season’s competitions 🏅start popping up and for a lot of people, that’s the nudge they need to get back into a routine. But even if you’re not looking to compete, having some kind of goal makes a huge difference to how you feel about training. And no, it doesn’t have to be big or fancy. It just has to matter to you.
Goals Give You a Reason to Show Up 💪
It’s really simple - when you know what you’re aiming for, it’s easier to stay consistent. Research backs this up - people who set specific goals are far more likely to stick to their training. Get fitter is too vague but attend class twice a week or prep for that comp in April gives your brain something solid to work with.
A goal gives you direction on the days motivation is… let’s just say, not at its best!!
Goals Make Your Sessions Better Not Harder
When you have a goal, your training naturally becomes more focused. You start paying attention to the small wins, you make better decisions in your sessions and you’re more likely to follow a plan instead of winging it.
This doesn’t mean training has to be more intense - just more intentional.
Small Goals Build Confidence 🙌
One of my favourite things to watch at Fortis is how quickly people build momentum from the smallest goals. Two classes a week. Learning a new movement. Showing up regularly for a month.
Every time you tick something off, you prove to yourself you can do hard things and that confidence carries into everything else you do 😊
Competitions Are Great Motivators But They’re Not the Only Option 📅
With event calendars coming out for next season, it’s a perfect time to pick something if you need that extra spark 🚀
But your goal can also be less ambitious and more personal -
build strength 🏋️♀️
improve conditioning 🏃♂️
feel more energised 😊
rebuild routine 🔁
return from injury with confidence 🌱
Whatever it is, make it simple and make it yours.
Now’s the Perfect Time to Reset
If you’ve been drifting a bit as we all do, this is a great moment to set a new goal and get back into a groove. Tell Coach what you’re working toward - we can help you build a plan and keep you accountable.
Here’s to a strong season ahead, whether you’re chasing a comp PB or just trying to show up more often. You’ve got this 💪🥇🚀

Fortis November Update - What a Month! 🎉
The highlight of this month has hands-down been our incredible crew who competed at the NZ Masters Finals. We had six Fortis athletes competing and they came away with 6 podium finishes!! We cleaned up with 🥇🥇 two golds, 🥈🥈 two silvers and 🥉🥉 two bronze models!!
It was an epic day surrounded by our awesome Masters community, with friends and family cheering loudly from the sidelines. We’re so proud of every single athlete - the hard work, early mornings, dedication and grit that went into getting there absolutely showed!!
And of course we celebrated properly afterwards with beers, cocktails and a good feed 🍻🍹🍽️ exactly as it should be!
What a team! What a day! What a month! 🙌
