July
Fortis Monthly Series - July: What Coaches Notice That You Don’t
In May we talked about consistency - reducing decisions so you show up more regularly.
Because once consistency improves, something interesting happens - progress starts showing up in ways you might not immediately notice.
This is where coaches often see more than you do.
When you train regularly, it’s easy to focus on what isn’t improving.
You’re still struggling with double unders
That lift still feels heavy
You had to scale again
You felt slow in the workout
But coaches often see something completely different. We see the small changes that add up to big progress - the ones that are easy to miss when you’re in the middle of it.
You’re Stronger Than You Think 🏋️♀️
One of the most common things we notice is strength creeping up quietly.
The weights you used to hesitate over are now your warm-up
Your movement looks more controlled
You recover faster between sets
You’re moving with more confidence
These changes don’t always show up as a new PB but they matter. A lot.
Strength builds gradually and often the biggest improvements happen before you even realise it.
Your Movement Is Improving
You might still feel awkward in certain lifts or gymnastics movements, but coaches see:
Better positions
More consistency
Improved timing
Stronger finishes
Less hesitation
Technique progress is subtle. It’s measured in small adjustments that compound over time.
That’s why repeating movements even when they feel frustrating is so valuable.
You’re Handling More Work
Another big one: your capacity is growing.
You’re finishing workouts you used to stop
You’re resting less between sets
You’re holding pace longer
You’re bouncing back quicker the next day
You may not feel fitter every session, but your engine is improving in the background.
And that’s exactly what long-term training is supposed to do.
You’re Becoming More Consistent
This is often the biggest win of all.
We notice when you:
show up even when you're tired
scale appropriately
ask questions
stick to your training days
focus on movement quality
These behaviours drive progress more than any single workout ever could.
Consistency beats occasional big efforts every time.
Call to Action 📢
This month, ask coach one simple question: What have you noticed improving?
You might be surprised by the answer.
Keep showing up. Repeat the basics. Trust the process.
We’re watching your progress even when you can’t see it yet.

July at Fortis: Strong Teams, New Challenges & HYROX Excitement
July has been a big month at Fortis!
There’s been plenty happening across the gym, from new challenges and competitions to celebrating our younger athletes and we’ve got some exciting news to share…
Fortis is now a HYROX Training Club!
This is something we’re really excited about 🎉
We’ve officially joined the HYROX Training Club community, which means we’re now offering even more opportunities for our members to train, learn and prepare for the world of HYROX.
Our Discover HYROX trial classes have been a huge hit, with some fresh faces stepping into the gym and taking on their first HYROX-style sessions. It’s been awesome seeing people give something new a go, work hard, have a laugh and discover just how much they’re capable of.
We’re looking forward to building on that momentum as we head towards the next phase of our HYROX training.
Celebrating Strong Women at The Butterfly Effect 🦋
We had two awesome Fortis teams competing at The Butterfly Effect in June - an all-female competition celebrating strong women, teamwork and community.
It was fantastic to see our teams getting stuck in, supporting each other and embracing the challenge. Competitions like this are about so much more than the final result. They’re about showing up, giving things a go, backing your teammates and discovering what you can do when you push yourself outside your comfort zone 💥
We’re incredibly proud of everyone who represented Fortis.
Our First GRID Hybrid Race
Darren and I also took on our first GRID hybrid race this month!
It was a new challenge for us and a great reminder that sometimes the best way to understand what our members are taking on is to get out there and experience it ourselves.
Hybrid events are a fantastic mix of strength, fitness and grit and we’re looking forward to taking on more challenges like this in the future.
Fortis Fit Kids & Teen Angels Wrap Up Term 2
We’ve wrapped up another term of our Fit Kids and Teen Angels classes. These sessions are always full of energy, effort and plenty of personality. It’s been great watching our younger members build confidence, develop their skills and learn that fitness can be challenging, rewarding and most importantly fun 💯
And now, after a short break, we’re getting ready to kick off Term 3! We can’t wait to see everyone back in the gym when we kick off on 27th July.
Looking Ahead to August
August is going to be all about consistency. Building good habits. Showing up. Putting in the work. Continuing to develop our strength and fitness.
And, of course, starting to gear up for competition season.
Whether your goal is to take on your first HYROX event, prepare for a competition, improve your fitness, build strength or simply keep showing up for yourself each week, there’s plenty happening at Fortis.
We’re excited for what’s ahead. Bring on August! 💪
